Grimmett, American Law Division Abstract: This report describes the requirements os section 102(b) of the Arms Export Control Act, 22 U.S.C. section 2799aa-1(b), which requires the imposition of economic and military sanctions against countries that have engaged in certain types of nuclear proliferation, and discusses its application to India and Pakistan, which conducted nuclear weapons tests in May 1998. It also discusses subsequently enacted legislation authorizing the removal of some or all of these sanctions and presidential action taken pursuant to these new authorities.
