Abstract: A number of federal statutes address fraud and abuse in federally funded health care programs, including Medicare and Medicaid. These statutes include the False Claims Act, the anti-kickback statute, the Stark law, as well as additional program-related penalties and exclusions. This report provides an overview of these laws, including examples of prohibited conduct and penalties for violation.
