Abstract: This report discusses the March 11, 2004 terrorist attacks on Madrid, Spain and their impact on Spains March 14 parliamentary elections, which resulted in the surprise victory of the Socialist Party over the ruling right-of-center Popular Party. The report also examines some of the possible implications of the attacks and the elections for the U.S.-led coalition in Iraq, the war on terrorism, and U.S.-Spain relations.
