Abstract: The New Partnership for Africas Development (NEPAD), described by its proponents as a multi-sector, sustainable development policy framework, seeks to reduce poverty, increase economic growth, and improve socio-economic development prospects across Africa. Major NEPAD aims are to attract greater investment and development aid to Africa, reduce the continents debt levels, and broader global market access for African exports. NEPAD emphasizes increased democratization, political accountability, and transparency in governance in African states as primary means of achieving its goals. NEPAD is a key policy vehicle of the African Union, which succeeded the Organization of African Unity in July 2002.
