Abstract: As the United States prepares for possible military conflict in Afghanistan, it is considering employing military air power in a variety of roles. Congress may have questions concerning the effective use of air power, including which aircraft are likely to be involved and how will they be used. Other questions include what risks U.S. aircraft may face, potential readiness or sustainment issues, logistical challenges, and the effectiveness of U.S. air forces against a "low tech" enemy.
