Number: RS20737 Title: The Federal Republic of Yugoslavia: U.S. Economic Assistance Authors: Curt Tarnoff, Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Trade Division Abstract: As a result of president Milosevic's fall from power in October 2000, U.S. economic assistance to the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY) is expected to shift from a program of opposition to Milosevic to one more broadly fostering democratic institutions and economic reform. Congress has approved $100 million for Serbia; but, depending on the political evolution in the FRY, may debate in the near future the remaining constraints on aid, role of other donors, type of aid required, and the relationship of Serbia with Montenegro and Kosovo in the context.
