Title: CHILD LABOR AND THE INTERNATIONAL LABOR ORGANIZATION (ILO)

Abstract: With the adoption of a new child labor convention in Geneva on June 17, 1999, ILO member states began to take a more aggressive stand against the exploitation of children in the labor market. This convention joins the seven core labor conventions that the ILO members have determined identify fundamental human rights. Meanwhile, a small but rapidly growing ILO technical program that is geared toward reducing child labor around the world has become an increasingly important part of the international effort against child labor. This report discusses these two aspects of ILO activity in the area of child labor.
