Bearden, Resources, Science, and Industry Division Abstract: EPA finalized stricter "Tier 2" standards on February 10, 2000. The new standards will be phased in beginning in model year 2004 and will require new passenger vehicles and light trucks to achieve full compliance by model year 2007 and new light trucks to meet the same standards by model year 2009. The new standards will also would limit gasoline sulfur levels to an average of 30 parts per million nationwide beginning in 2005, roughly 90 percent less than the current national average of 340 parts per million.
