Abstract: This report lays a groundwork for consideration of expectations of China in the context of climate change as a global challenge. It first provides a brief comparison of China's economy and energy sector with those of the United States. The report then assesses the limited information available on GHG emissions in China. Next, it summarizes some of the best described elements of China's strategy to mitigate its GHG emissions. Finally, a section identifies key points on China's status in international cooperation.
