Abstract: This report provides an overview of Medicare's program integrity efforts. A definition of program integrity is presented, as well as descriptions of the types of activities, organizations, and agencies involved in protecting Medicare's integrity on a day-to-day basis. The report continues with a history of federal funding for Medicare's anti-fraud activities and a discussion of findings from recent studies on program integrity efforts. The report concludes with a description of current issues.
