Abstract: This report analyzes the current federal legislation that impacts the state juvenile justice systems. Although the report provides some background information on the evolution of juvenile justice in the United States, the main focus of the report is the major federal legislation that impacts the states juvenile justice systems, including the JJDPA. As the major provisions of the JJDPA are currently authorized through FY2007, several issues pertaining to its reauthorization may be of concern to the 110th Congress.
