Abstract: Section 103(a)(1) of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952 (INA) has been amended twice, and now places primary responsibility for enforcing and administering immigration law with the Secretary of Homeland Security. However it still apparently allows the Attorney General to retain a significant amount of authority to enforce, administer, and interpret immigration law. The extent of the Attorney Generals authority has become highly contentious in the wake of several events.
