The date are presented in three parts. The first part provides an overview of nominations and appointments made during the 106th Congress, the appointments process, and the constitutional and statutory authority for filling the positions. Part two contains a cumulative list, in alphabetical order, of all nominations submitted, and a table summarizing, by department, the number of positions; action taken on nominations submitted; and the number of acting officials serving in each department. Part three is divided, by department, into an appointments section and a positions and incumbents section. Under the appointments section, each nominees is listed along with the position to which nominated; the date nominated; and the date the nominee was confirmed, or the nomination was defeated, returned, or withdrawn. Under the positions and incumbents section, each position requiring Senate confirmation is listed, as well as the incumbent in the position, and the executive schedule level of the position.
