Abstract: This report provides an overview of current federal laws and regulations on the protection and removal of fossils from federal lands. It reviews the provisions of statutes of general application and compares the laws and regulations of the Bureau of Land Management, the National Park Service, the Forest Service, and the Department of Defense. The analysis notes areas that are unclear and discusses relevant penalties.
