It examines the origins, effects, and policy options with respect to the Asian financial crisis, provides information on the size of and actual disbursements under the IMF support packages to Thailand, Indonesia, and South Korea, and discusses issues related to the IMF such as IMF resources, moral hazard, contagion, conditionality, prevention, and transparency. It also examines effects on the U.S. economy in terms of economic growth, the trade deficit, U.S. exports to Asia, and on specific sectors of the economy.
