Number: 98-208 Title: APPROPRIATIONS FOR FY1999: DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORATION AND RELATED AGENCIES Authors: Duane A. Thompson, Science, Technology, and Medicine Division Abstract: For FY1999, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) requested total funding of $43.3 billion, a 1-percent increase over the FY1998 enacted level of $39 billion. The FY1999 budget request was similar in many respects to the FY1998 appropriation. New to the DOT budget process this year were the requirements of the Government Performance and Results Act of 1993 (P.L. 103-62). GPRA has been described as a tool for budgeting--a framework within which government agencies, including DOT, establish long-term strategic goals and request funding accordingly.
