Title: Conservation Provisions in the 1996 Farm Bill: A Summary

Abstract: This Congressional Research Service report summarizes the conservation provisions in the 1996 farm bill, signed into law by President Clinton on April 4, 1996 (P.L. 104-127). The conservation title, as enacted, more fully integrates resource conservation and environmental concerns with agricultural policies, continuing a trend that started with the 1985 farm bill and continued with the 1990 farm bill. Provisions in this title change the resource conservation effort in significant ways that go beyond individual programs.
